Molecular species identification
Confirm species where a suitable molecular method can resolve an identification question. Combine laboratory results with morphology, habitat information and the collection record to refine surveillance and programme priorities.
Pathogen PCR and RT-PCR screening
Commission assays for specified pathogens relevant to the target mosquito species and the local risk assessment. The laboratory agrees accepted specimens, pool design, preservation and test scope before collection. A positive result alone does not demonstrate an infectious mosquito or transmission to residents; a negative result applies to the samples and targets tested.
Genetic insecticide-resistance testing
Investigate specified resistance-associated markers, including relevant kdr variants where appropriate. Interpret findings for the species and insecticide concerned. Marker presence does not alone establish treatment failure, and marker absence does not establish susceptibility.
Phenotypic susceptibility bioassays
Where required, arrange suitable bioassays through the receiving laboratory to measure the response of a viable mosquito cohort to insecticide exposure. Use genetic findings, bioassay results and field performance together when reviewing approved control options.
Testing through contracted laboratories
Mosquito Arabia develops the commissioning brief, coordinates the sampling requirements and interprets findings within the programme. Laboratory testing is delivered through contracted laboratories. Availability, analytical scope, specimen acceptance, permissions, costs and turnaround are confirmed before commissioning.
A sampling plan linked to a decision
Define the question, species, sampling area and period, collection method and reporting requirements. Agree preservation and transport before collecting specimens. Keep material for pathogen analysis, genetic screening and live bioassays on the appropriate laboratory-approved routes.
From results to proportionate action
An interpreted findings report sets out what was tested, the limitations and the implications for surveillance or control. Pathogen findings are considered with the relevant public-health authority. Mosquito testing does not diagnose residents, and resistance findings concern insecticide response rather than proof of infection.
